Agentic AI: Practical Automation for Independent Retailers

While the tech world discusses the future possibilities of AI, we are focused on delivering Agentic AI capabilities that local small business retailers can use today.
What is Agentic AI?
In simple terms, Agentic AI refers to intelligent systems designed to take autonomous, goal-oriented actions.
Where traditional software waits for you to input a command to perform a single task, Agentic AI can take multiple tasks, which you previously had to manage manually, and roll them into a single, automated process that runs without your constant intervention.
It is about software acting as a capable agent for your business, working in the background to save you time.
Agentic AI in Action: Tower Systems Automatic Reordering
We have already delivered outcomes for small business retailers that fit the definition of Agentic AI. This functionality was released in early 2025 as part of our Retailer 3.4.2 update. It was provided without fanfare and free of charge to our customers.
This solution is designed to remove the friction from stock management: Automatic Supplier Ordering.
How It Works
This feature allows your Tower Systems POS software to autonomously generate supplier orders based on specific rules or intelligent forecasting. Once set up, the software acts on your behalf, ensuring your shelves are stocked without you needing to manually build orders line-by-line.
You remain in control of the strategy, while the software handles the execution.

Flexible Scheduling
You determine how often the "agent" checks your stock requirements. You can schedule the system to generate orders:
- Daily: Every 24 hours.
- Weekly or Fortnightly: On a set cycle.
- Monthly or Yearly: For less frequent, bulk suppliers.
- Intelligent Calculation Methods
The software offers multiple ways to calculate what needs to be ordered, catering to different management styles:
- Reorder by Policy (Min/Max): The system generates orders based on your desired stock levels, subtracting what is already on pending or sent orders to ensure you never over-order.
- Sales Forecasting: This is where the AI truly shines. The system looks at your actual sales history (over a period you define) and predicts exactly what you will need for the coming weeks.
- Seamless Integration
You can choose whether the system creates a brand new order every time or intelligently appends items to an existing pending order.
The Outcome for Your Business
Once enabled, the Automatic Order cycle runs in the background. You do not need to click a button to start the process.
When the system generates an order, a notification (a speech bubble icon) appears on your main Retailer screen and POS screen. You simply click the notification to review the order in the Orders Maintenance screen before it is finalised.
Getting Started
This feature is available now in Retailer (version 3.4.2 and above).
To implement this Agentic AI capability in your business:
- Go to Stock Maintenance or click the Stock button.
- Select Suppliers and Departments and navigate to the AutoOrder tab.
- Configure your schedule, forecasting rules, and active suppliers.
By automating the routine task of reordering, you free up valuable time to focus on what matters most: serving your customers and growing your business.
